Here is a way to get brand new waveforms for synthesis by reducing longer samples (here I use a flute and my voice) to tiny waves and looping them. I hope it is helpful! :) http://www.youtube.com/user/danieklerr
Wavosaur is a great free editor which is really handy for creating looped .wav-instruments. The Electribe can import these samples and read the looppoints. It works on windows and linux (using wine) without any problems. Also you can process/record/master your audio using VST plugins.
